When I asked you to write a song that I could give to my husband as a Christmas present, and sent you pages upon pages of “stuff” about my husband, our relationship and life together that I thought might be useful in writing the lyrics, you picked up on the 4 or 5 key, most personal points in all that chatter, and not only came up with the ideal “hook,” you carried it through so that the song wrapped up everything I was trying to say, but had used far too many words to do it. With just two or three more questions of me, you cut through all those words and distilled it all into the perfect song, the “essence of Pete.” Not only are the lyrics to “King of Her Heart” more than perfect, the music you composed fits the lyrics so organically…gentle, seemingly simple yet exquisitely expressive, quiet, joyful, reflective, lilting, and your vocals – you knew precisely when to put that impish little smile into your voice and when to let it reflect a heart bursting with love….wait!
